Republicans Accuse Biden Of Fear-Mongering For Keeping It Real

Last week, Vice President Joe Biden indirectly claimed that rape and murder rates in Flint, Michigan, one of the most violent cities in America, would continue to go up if Congress refuses to approve a measure in Obama's jobs plan that would lead to the hiring and rehiring of police officers and first responders.

"Police departments, as I said, in some cases literally cut in half, like Camden, N.J., and Flint, Mich. In many cities, the result has been — and it's not unique — murder rates are up, robberies are up, rapes are up."

Republicans immediately threw a fit, claiming that Biden was desperately relying on politically motivated, fear-mongering tactics. While Biden's remarks were a bit over the top, there is no denying that a reduction in law enforcement officers will inevitably lead to an increase in crime. Plus, the Republicans are in no position to accuse anyone of fear-mongering, what with the fact that most of them majored in it.

Thankfully, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney agrees:

"I think it would be hard to find anyone who doesn't agree with the simple equation that fewer police officers on the street has a direct effect on the crime rate. Having more law enforcement officers on the job, police officers on the job, would have a positive impact on crime. ... That's the point he was making. And that's a point that the president absolutely does share."

Republicans Kill 400,000 Jobs With One Clean Sweep

47 job-killing Senate Republicans managed to defeat a key provision in President Obama's jobs plan that would have bolstered the economy by using tax hikes on millionaires to create 400,000 jobs for educators, police officers, firefighters and first responders. The vote fell short of the 60 needed, no thanks in part to Joe Lieberman and two Democrat sellouts: Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Mark Pryor (D-AK).

According to AFP, GOP members blocked the measure because it would have burdened the ever-so-poor and distraught millionaires of America with a mighty 0.5% tax hike.

Obama fired back, citing the opposition as "unacceptable" and guaranteeing the American public that he would continue with the bill's remaining provisions:

"For the second time in two weeks, every single Republican in the United States Senate has chosen to obstruct a bill that would create jobs and get our economy going again. Every American deserves an explanation as to why Republicans refuse to step up to the plate and do what's necessary to create jobs and grow the economy right now."
