The Most Radical Bill Ever Proposes Identifying Fertilized Human Eggs As People

On November 8, Mississippi voters will have the opportunity to vote for a constitutional amendment that would recognize every fertilized human egg as a person from the moment of conception -- as in the second the sperm attaches to the egg.

"The amendment in Mississippi would ban virtually all abortions, including those resulting from rape or incest. It would bar some birth control methods, including IUDs and 'morning-after pills,' which prevent fertilized eggs from implanting in the uterus." (New York Times)

Dubbed Initiative 26, the amendment would also curb the use of in vitro fertilization, which is used by couples unable to conceive via more traditional methods.

Similar amendments are brewing all across the country in states like Ohio, Florida and Michigan, Wisconsin and Montana. And who is leading the charge? You guessed it. The "small-government" conservatives who claim to be so vehemently dedicated to standing up for our individual rights. BAH HUMBUG!

Tune in below to hear Nation columnist and the professor of political science at Tulane University, Miss Melissa Harris Perry, tackle the issue on MSNBC's Sound Off.
